  • When is the best time to visit the Galapagos Islands?

The Galapagos Islands are a fantastic destination year-round, as wildlife activity is always happening. However, the "best" time for your visit depends on your preferences regarding weather, sea conditions, and what specific animal behaviors you hope to witness. The archipelago has two main seasons: 1. Warm/Wet Season (December to May): Weather: Warmer air temperatures (around 25-30°C / 77-86°F) and sea temperatures (23-26°C / 73-79°F). Higher humidity. Occasional brief, heavy rain showers, often in the afternoon, which typically clear quickly. Don't let "wet season" deter you; these showers are often refreshing, and much of the day is sunny. Seas are generally calmer, making it ideal if you are prone to seasickness. Excellent visibility for snorkeling and diving due to warmer, clearer waters. Wildlife Highlights: Nesting and breeding: Many land species are highly active. You'll see green sea turtles nesting, land iguanas starting their mating season, frigatebirds inflating their red pouches, and waved albatrosses returning (April) and beginning courtship. Hatchlings: Giant tortoise eggs begin hatching in December and continue through April. Green sea turtle eggs also start hatching around April. Lush vegetation: The rain makes the islands incredibly green and vibrant, providing abundant food for terrestrial animals. Best for: Swimming, snorkeling, diving, photography with lush landscapes, seeing baby animals, and those who prefer warmer water and calmer seas. 2. Cool/Dry Season (June to November), also known as "Garúa" Season
