Bolivia ...

Bolivia offers one of South America’s most sought-after attractions.

Uyuni, 3,656 metros above sea level, is the world’s largest salt flat with more than 4,050 square miles that expand throughout the Altiplano. During your epic road trip, you be able to stop to appreciate the most spectacular attractions before arriving at Uyuni.

  • When is the best time to visit Uyuni Salt Flats?

The best time to visit the Uyuni Salt Flats largely depends on what experience you're hoping to have, as each season offers something unique. The "Mirror Effect" (Rainy Season): December to April (peak January-March) • During the rainy season, a thin layer of water covers the salt flats, turning them into the world's largest natural mirror. This creates breathtaking reflections of the sky, clouds, and surrounding landscapes, making it feel like you're walking on air. It's incredibly popular for photography. • Stunning mirror effect, higher daytime temperatures (averaging 15°C to 25°C), less extreme night temperatures. Dry Season: May to November • The salt flats are completely dry, revealing vast hexagonal salt patterns and a seemingly endless white landscape. This is ideal for perspective photography, where you can play with optical illusions and make objects appear larger or smaller. • Clear blue skies, full accessibility to all attractions (including Incahuasi Island with its giant cacti), perfect for perspective photos, less crowded (especially outside of peak dry season months). Shoulder Seasons (Best of Both Worlds): April to May and October to November • These months offer a transition between the wet and dry seasons. • You might get a chance to see both the dry salt patterns and some mirror effect (if there's been recent rain), generally fewer tourists, and milder temperatures compared to the extremes of the peak wet or dry seasons.
  • How can I travel to Uyuni Salt Flats?

Internal flights to Joya Andina Airport (UYU) is one way to travel to Uyuni. Uyuni is also accessible from San Pedro de Atacama, Chile with a 4X4 vehicle. Travelling from Chile, the trip is 3 days and two nights with the final night in Uyuni or 4 days and 3 nights returning to San Pedro de Atacama.
